Websites with large background images / photos are very rare but in 2011 we may see this trend becoming very popular. Specially with HTML5 getting popularity we will see designers taking full advantage of it and will use high resolution backdrops covering the entire site. Its a nice way to grab attention of site visitors but there are few things that you should take care before using large background photos or illustrations.
Firstly the background image should be related to content and appropriate for your site visitors. There is no point in having an image in the background that just looks pretty but it has no meaning as far as site content is related.
Another thing to take care is that the image should fit on different screen resolutions. You must check the large background image on several different screen resolutions.
Make sure that the large background image has no or little impact on site speed, bandwith and performance.

I think we should start to see the trend more and more because most people are getting faster internet and large images covering the page look amazing.
Yes thats right and once this or other trends become more and more popular we will also have to follow these trends otherwise our sites may start looking like outdated…
